sSMART General President Joseph Sellers visits Honda Job Site and the Columbus Sheet Metal Workers Apprenticeship (CSMWA). Mr. Sellers talk to our Young Leaders group and gave them encouragement to keep working together. He talked about how he started as an apprentice and worked his way up to where he is now. He said that could be any one of them with hard work and a little luck.

Applicants are scheduled for an interview today. After the interviews are finished and the numbers are put in the computer, we will have a new applicant list to work from. As always we bring people in according to their rank on this list.

Enrollment of minorities in union apprentice programs is about three times the number enrolled in non-union programs, and there are four times as many women enrolled in union training. Graduation rates of minorities and women from union apprentice programs is three times that of non-union programs. The all-trades graduation rate for union apprentice programs was 82.2 percent, compared with 17.8 percent for non-union programs. Applicants Tour of Training Center today, we took them around and showed the training center, talked about classes and discussed on the job training. After the tour the applicants all applied to become apprentices.

Columbus instructor Glenn Sager went to training this week for Instructor Service. Keep up the good work, LU#24 has some of the best instructors around the country, glad to have them. Good to see instructors keeping up the skills and learning new ways to teach Sheet Metal Apprentices.
CSMWA-JATC and SMCCO meet to discuss way to recruit a diverse workforce. We talked about Career center visits, Fort Hayes / Building Trades Career fair, SkillsUSA, Kiwanis College Fair, and other events we can do together.
Southwestern Career Center Welding Advisory meeting. Good meeting discussing the welding program and curriculum. We discussed keeping the School's relationship with Kirk Williams Sheet Metal Company strong. I suggested we might want to include Katie Rucker to the committee. Katie is a graduate of Southwestern Career Center Welding Program, is a Sheet Metal Apprentice and works for Kirk Williams.
